A series of pavilions set the scene of the International Woolmark Prize 2022 Showroom located in 180 The Strand, London. Centred around the theme ‘playscape’ curated by Zak Group and inspired by Noguchi’s sculptures, these fully recyclable pavilions function as over-scaled objects and display for the collections of the prize finalists Ahluwalia, EGONLAB, Jordan Dalah, MMUSOMAXWELL, Peter Do, RUI and SaulNash.
Each pavilion is composed of a simple set of primary forms that, in addition, create a playful and fluid landscape. Here and there you find original bright red Nogchui Octetra sculptures, fragments of a fascinating collection of Noguchi’s playground objects, loaned by The Noguchi Museum.
Extended cloth hangars are suspended from raised poles and negotiate the pavilion scale with the human scale. They introduce a lightness and move the focus to the collection pieces, while the coloured and chunky volumes set the background and define simple and impactful anchor points within the space.
